Saiba tudo sobre os 5 picos mais altos do Brasil!

Compared to other South American countries, Brazil does not have many high-altitude locations. To give you an idea, the highest point of our relief is close to 3000 meters in altitude, while the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest, is 8,849 meters.

But, even if they are not so high, these places offer beautiful adventures and a special connection with nature.

If you like to practice ecotourism and challenge yourself near the clouds, check out some of Brazil's 5 highest peaks!

1. Pico da Neblina

With an altitude of 2995 meters, Pico da Neblina is the first in the ranking of Brazil's highest peaks. It is located in northern Amazonas, in the Guiana Highlands on the border of Brazil and Venezuela.

The name "neblina" (mist/fog) refers to the condition of the mountaintop, which is always covered by mist. The Pico da Neblina National Park is located there, which also features another peak, the second highest, which we will see in more detail in the next topic.

For those who just want to enjoy the view in the midst of nature, it is possible to camp in the Park. But, for those who want to see the peak up close, it requires a lot of breath, physical conditioning and willpower to walk 2 to 3 days through the forest amidst a lot of mud and humidity.

This is the time it takes to reach the base of Pico da Neblina. The adventurer who wants to reach the top still needs to climb for about 5 hours until they see the Brazilian flag, a landmark of the highest point in the country.

2. Pico 31 de Março

Located in the Pico da Neblina National Park, Brazil's second highest peak is a few meters lower than the first place, at 2972 meters of altitude.

As they are in the same location and are of similar heights, the difficulties of access to Pico 31 de Março are very similar. Always remember to bring water to hydrate, protect your skin from the sun and bring some snacks for a break.

It is worth noting that the area belongs to the Yanomami indigenous people, who restrict visits to the peaks. Those interested in the adventure must request authorization from ICMBio and the Yanomami Association of Rio Cauaburís and Affluents (AYRCA).

3. Pico da Bandeira

Pico da Bandeira is located between the states of Espírito Santo (60%) and Minas Gerais (30%). With approximately 2892 meters, it held the first place in the ranking of Brazil's highest peak in the 1960s.

Around the mountain is the Caparaó National Park, composed of Atlantic Forest and High-Altitude Fields. Easily accessible, it is a very popular peak for tourists. The best time for visitation is from April to October, a period with less rain.

Those who wish to enjoy stunning views from the highest point have the option of camping in areas with restrooms, dishwashing facilities, and kiosks, and can also enjoy natural pools and waterfalls.

A curiosity: Pico da Bandeira got its name in 1859 after Dom Pedro II ordered a flag of his empire to be fixed on the summit.

4. Pico do Calçado

Considered a sub-summit of Pico da Bandeira, Pico do Calçado is not recognized as an independent mountain by the IBGE. However, with its 2849 meters of altitude, it enters our list as the fourth highest peak in Brazil.

Access to Pico do Calçado is via a trail from Pico da Bandeira, which takes approximately 40 minutes. Another option is from one of the campsites in Caparaó National Park, which can take up to 3 hours.

Regarding vegetation, the explorer will come into contact with a peculiar flora with high diversity and species.

Pico Pedra da Mina is located between the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo. To reach the top of the 2798 meters of altitude, it is necessary to be in excellent physical condition and always be accompanied by experienced guides who are familiar with the region.

The ascent can take up to 8 hours and 5 hours to descend. The trails feature uphill terrain and false summits that are challenging for those who enjoy a good adventure.

Along with the difficulties, the exuberant nature and surreal views promise to compensate for all the physical effort.
