What is Bushcraft? Find out now!
Bushcraft is relatively new here in Brazil. But anyone who enjoys outdoor activities, camping, and fishing has certainly heard of the term. It's a practice that's growing more and more, because there's a need for people to reconnect with nature. If you don't know what this concept is all about, read our post and find out what Bushcraft is!
So, what is Bushcraft and what does this practice involve?
The activity is often confused with survivalism, however, despite having similar characteristics, survivalism is a set of practices used to stay safe in extreme situations.
Bushcraft, in turn, aims to put the individual in contact with nature, making them set up camp with the resources the environment itself provides. The idea is to stay in nature for a while to reconnect and get away from the big city, breathing fresh air, recovering energy, and feeling the peace of the environment.
Bushcraft has some practices similar to survivalism, as it requires clearing paths, setting up camp, making fires, hunting, fishing, etc.

Many people think it's just a common camping trip, but it's not. The activity makes you fully engage with the location. To do this, it's important that participants have some basic knowledge of flora, fauna, regional characteristics, and first aid techniques. After all, staying in the woods isn't as simple as ordering food through an app in the city, right?
What do I need to practice Bushcraft?
To embark on this incredible adventure, you need to be prepared psychologically and materially. There will be long hikes, camping, preparing food in a rudimentary way, showering and drinking water from streams and waterfalls, sleeping without the comfort of a bed and air conditioning.
For everything to go as smoothly as possible, it's essential to have the right equipment! A backpack with a canteen, a compass, a fire steel, reinforced boots, a hat, repellent, and sunscreen should be part of your Bushcraft Kit. Furthermore, you can't leave home without a good knife or machete. A sturdy and sharp blade is essential for the activity!
You'll need to cut and split firewood, prepare the ground, cook, clean fish, among other tasks that can only be performed with an efficient and resistant blade. A sporting knife and a machete for Bushcraft, besides being essential tools, are pieces of equipment that can be used for group survival in adverse situations.
Smaller blades are also welcome for the practice, so carrying a tactical folding knife is a great option. But, obviously, these blades must be of high quality so they don't break when you use them. Therefore, prefer models coated in stainless steel or carbon, which are more resistant materials.

How to start Bushcraft?
To start, read a lot about the subject, watch videos, talk to practitioners, look for Bushcraft groups, and prepare well. Studying about plants, trees, animals, and types of soil will also help you. After all, you will have to deal with all of this.
The tip is to start in a known place, where you can get more information from people who have already been there, so it's not such a difficult test the first time. Then, you can choose less explored places with a higher degree of difficulty.
Assemble your Bushcraft kit and don't forget the essential survival items, such as sporting knives, machetes, and tactical folding knives.
