Using wood to manufacture any type of item is a very serious matter, after all, it immediately brings up the issue of our planet's sustainability.

Cutting down more trees than we plant can lead to an imbalance on the planet, in addition to the fact that companies can be sued for illegal environmental practices.

This irresponsibility can even lead companies to close their doors due to high environmental fines. Therefore, being up to date with sustainability laws is fundamental for the business of any company that deals with wood.

That's why, here at Cutelaria Cimo, we only use certified wood to manufacture the handles of all our knives, pocket knives, and machetes. Learn more about this topic!

But, after all, what is certified wood?

Working with certified wood means purchasing wood raw materials from permitted areas, that is, reforestation areas, which are regions managed with sustainable planning for wood extraction.

This is a commitment to the future of the planet, after all, when we talk about sustainability, we have to consider forest replacement. And this replacement happens when companies plant a new tree every time they remove another one for use, that is, to generate profit in their activities and purposes.

Global warming is a reality and many cities are already suffering the effects of neglecting nature, so the act of forest replacement has a great impact to contribute to the planet.

Many conscious consumers value companies that use certified wood in their products and only buy from groups that have a certification seal, proving their responsibility for the impacts they cause on the earth.

What processes does qualified wood go through?

The first step required to manufacture pocket knife, knife, and machete handles is the selection of the wood to be used.

Here at Cimo, we use Jatobá wood, which is a moderately easy type of wood to work with. It can be planed, glued, screwed, and nailed without problems, in addition to showing resistance to turning and veneering. The finish of products with Jatobá is excellent, largely due to the varnish and luster it possesses.

The wood needs to be very well treated, and the first step for this is the wood stabilization process. It is a process in which the manufacturer places the cut wood block in a vacuum chamber with hot resin. Then, the resin will penetrate throughout the interior of the wood block, making the wood much denser and stronger, being suitable for manufacturing wood parts that need to be more resistant, such as a handle for knives, pocket knives, and professional machetes.

In addition, this stabilization process also waterproofs the wood, making it immune to fungi and bacteria, thus, this is a way to have more safety regarding the issue of food poisoning, since it is possible to wash the blade handles with soap and water without having problems with the wood expanding due to water absorption.

Wood that does not go through the stabilization process is much more light and fragile, not being the most ideal for making blade handles. Here at Cimo, we can guarantee the resistance of the handles used in our blades, after all, we use high-quality Jatobá and, now, Cutelaria Cimo presents the qualified wood seal to guarantee its customers the quality they expect.

Cutelaria Cimo also has a commitment to the environment

In addition to worrying about the quality of the products it delivers to its customers, Cutelaria Cimo also has its commitment to the environment, which is why it always uses legal wood.

Certified wood is extracted in a responsible way so as not to harm nature. In this method of wood extraction, a management plan is made to reforest the area being explored.

The removal of trees from the forest must be done carefully, so as not to damage the local ecosystem, that is, the trees, when removed, are selected by age and by area, respecting a removal cycle, which, in turn, is very well planned.

After all, we know the importance of keeping our ecosystem balanced and how trees play a fundamental role in this.

And thanks to people who care about these issues, more and more companies are adopting healthy practices for the environment. Many people make a point of investigating whether the company they are about to do business with is committed to the planet's sustainability.

For the consumer, it is fundamental to have the guarantee that they are taking home a product whose extraction did not cause damage to the environment, society, and local economy.

Having a sustainable culture is among the principles of companies that want to remain relevant in the market, after all, it is very common for companies to place this premise among their values.

Therefore, if you are also a consumer who cares about these issues, you can purchase your blade with a clear conscience here at Cimo!

This is another quality seal that Cutelaria Cimo has to confirm its commitment to our customers, always presenting the quality you trust!
