Conheça diferentes tipos de churrasco ao redor do mundo

A national passion, a tradition, barbecue is not only for us a cherished and loved event, in other parts of the world we find different types of barbecue, as peculiar as they are delicious. We are sure you will be curious and your mouth will water!

Different barbecues around the world

Brazilian barbecue is quite popular. FirstWeFeast categorized it as the most varied, with an infamous number of skewer and side dish options. Due to its continental extension, Brazil draws inspiration from many different cuisines; our passion for Argentinean "bife anchos" or the "fogo de chão" that dominated all of southern Brazil and Uruguay.

But the concept of barbecue in some other parts of the world is quite different, and many are full of history and very specific culinary traits, want to see?

Australian Barbecue (Aussie BBQ)

The term BBQ (barbecue) is controversial when used by Australians. We explain: there is a fundamental difference between grilling and barbecuing; the first involves putting meat over high coals, to be prepared quickly, as is the traditional American backyard barbecue and in northern Europe, where they prepare hamburgers and sausages, but despite the name, they are grilled!

And Australian barbecue, deriving from the same common English origin, uses similar techniques, but meats that result in very different barbecues! This is because Australia has a very strong relationship with the sea, so fish and seafood are an important part of their diet.

At an Australian backyard BBQ, despite the similarity to American and European ones, you will find very well stuffed fish accompanied by potatoes, lots of shrimp, lamb, and very well-seasoned ribs. Having a "barbie" on the weekend to gather family and friends is sacred in their culture.

Korean Barbecue

Moving to Asia, certainly bulgogi is one of the most admired and known barbecues. This is because Korea has capitalized very well on its very peculiar, delicate, and seasoned barbecue. There are many chains that make bulgogi around the world.

Bulgogi consists of thin slices of meat very well marinated in highly seasoned sesame oil with a series of herbs. As traditional as bulgogi is kimchi, the base of the Korean meal, and believe it: the two combine perfectly.

Japanese Barbecue

Speaking of bulgogi, Japan loves this barbecue style as much as Koreans, so much so that they created a whole concept of their own that is very successful, yakiniku ((焼き肉) (yaki means grilled, and niku, meat) is often prepared around a compact grill, placed in the center of a table where small strips of meat, like wagyu, are grilled with soy sauce, and are often prepared in the shabu shabu style, a kind of Japanese fondue in which, in addition to meat, vegetables and tofu are prepared directly in the pot with sauce.

Moving on to street food, Japan also has another national passion: yakitori (tori = bird) is a grilled chicken skewer, cooked much slower, seasoned with milder sauces and skewered on a very traditional bamboo stick.

Kebab

The traditional and beloved kebab is one of the dishes that has the most varied types of barbecue. Although generally referring to seasoned lamb skewers or beef interspersed with vegetables, street kebab is often made on a vertical grill, with huge pieces of well-seasoned meat and citrus fruit juice, consumed in a wrap or bread.

The Turkish dish is originally enjoyed with raw vegetables, pasta and many spicy condiments.

In Greece it is called souvlaki, bathed in wine and consumed with traditional fried rice, pilaf.

Mexican Barbecue

Barbacoa (yes, it gave rise to the term barbecue) retains much of the indigenous tradition of the Americas: meat slow-cooked in the ground, wrapped in agave leaves and extremely seasoned with Mexican specialties: peppers, especially habanero and chipotle.

The meat becomes extremely tender, and is shredded and consumed with other accompaniments.

Indian Barbecue

India is another place much appreciated for its variety of condiments, which can be observed in its most popular barbecue, the tandoor. Chicken meat is stuffed and marinated, moistened in yogurt and also gets a coat of coloring, to make it look even more appetizing.

The meat is cooked for a long time, which leaves it with a very crispy crust.

Hawaiian Barbecue

One of the most popular Hawaiian clichés, the "Luau" derives from the gathering to prepare a very special barbecue, the kalua.

A whole pig, stuffed and skewered over a stone brazier in the ground, the imu. The pig is cooked very slowly, and around the preparation of this barbecue revolves the whole dynamic of the luau; Hawaiians gather around the imu to socialize, singing and dancing under the home.
