Camping tips: How to protect yourself from animals and insects?
We are always looking to connect with our audience's lifestyle, so we try to bring you the best tips for those who love a good adventure. Knife enthusiasts are often also fans of packing their bags, supplies, survival items, and tent to venture out.
In such cases, it's important to always be prepared. Those who read our blog frequently definitely know what we're talking about. Being in nature is wonderful, but it can present some dangers if the adventurer doesn't have the necessary experience to stay safe. Today, we're going to talk about how to stay safe from animals and insects when you're camping. Check it out!
What are the tips for staying safe from animals and insects?
Being in nature means "invading" the homes of other living beings – we're talking about animals. Of course, when we go camping, we try to choose the safest possible location to minimize risks. However, unexpected "visitors" can still show up at your campsite, especially if you're in a very wild area, such as parts of the Amazon or in the State Parks and Biological Reserves scattered throughout Brazil.
With insects, it's certain that we will encounter them. These creatures can be quite inconvenient, especially when trying to sleep. In some situations, some insects can go beyond inconvenience and even be fatal, as is the case with bees and wasps. But, how do you stay safe from insects in the wilderness? Check out some tips!
Repellents in abundance
This is a quite obvious and truly valid tip, as repellents are effective in keeping us safe from insects like mosquitoes and black flies, which won't let anyone sleep and can cause unbearable itching all over the body. So, you can't forget to apply plenty of repellent during the day.
Forgetting repellent when you go camping means you'll have to improvise to get a peaceful night's sleep. See the next tips.
Bring incense and repellents to burn

Often, relying only on repellents we apply to our skin, such as sprays and creams, is not enough, as there are more resistant insects that bite even when we are using these products.
Therefore, incense and those old spiral-shaped repellents, made to be burned, are certainly welcome in a camping situation. The smoke from these elements is also very efficient in warding off insects. If you go camping, remember to bring some with you.
Make a bonfire

Making a bonfire can also be quite effective, since, as we mentioned above, smoke does a great job of scaring off insects. In addition, the heat from the flames will also be effective in keeping larger animals away, as many of them are afraid of fire. A predator will hardly attack in a place where there is fire.
Therefore, knowing how to make a primitive fire can be a very important asset in your favor. When we are in a camping situation, all knowledge is valid!
How to get rid of snakes and scorpions?
These, without a doubt, are animals that no one wants to encounter when camping, as we know that their bites can be fatal. But everyone knows that in the wilderness, this situation is much more likely to happen than in the city. So, what to do?
The truth is that these animals only attack when they feel threatened, so the best tip is: watch where you're going very carefully! Of course, in addition to keeping a close eye on where you're walking in the woods, it's important to wear specific boots and pants for this activity. In other words, it's important to wear reinforced clothing and footwear so that your feet and shins are protected if, by carelessness, you step on one of these animals.
Another valuable tip is to move with caution, as the chances of a snake or scorpion attacking are much greater if you make a sudden movement. If you are careful, you will hardly get involved in an accident with one of these venomous animals.
What about larger predators?
Regarding other types of predators, such as felines, for example, the danger is greater. The best advice is to make sure that the region where you plan to camp is not known for housing animals of this size. Although there are some tips to scare away these animals - such as making noise, shouting, staring at them to intimidate them and make them leave - none of these actions are totally guaranteed, especially if they are hungry.
Therefore, check this issue before deciding to set up camp, because when it comes to hungry large predators, it's best not to be seen. Setting up a camp with a wide field of view is a great alternative to avoid being caught by surprise.
